ADOC Search for Greene County Releases

The ADOC inmate search is a state prison tool. It is useful when a Greene County Jail detainee was sentenced or transferred to ADOC. It is not the county jail roster, and it is not a historical release archive. ADOC states that its online database contains currently incarcerated inmates only and that historical data is not available online. That point changes the release workflow: if the person appears, the state record can show custody and release-date fields. If the person no longer appears, the absence must be checked through ADOC public records, ABPP, court, VNS, or another source.

Use ADOC for sentenced state custody. Use the sheriff and court for county jail release records. Use BOP or ICE only when the record shows federal or immigration custody.

ADOC Inmate Search Fields

ADOC allows searching by AIS number, first name, and last name. The AIS number is a unique six-digit number and takes precedence over name fields. Name searches can be open-ended, but ADOC limits displayed results to 50 records at a time. A common Greene County error is to treat the search as proof that a person was released. The safer wording is that the person is not currently shown in ADOC's online current-inmate database.

Check an ADOC Greene Release

The state-prison workflow should be specific and conservative. Record what the public ADOC screen shows while the person is still listed. Then use the correct records path if the online record disappears after release.

1. Search ADOC by AIS number when available, or by first and last name.
2. Confirm the record by identifiers, commit county, case number, and offense details.
3. Record the admit date, custody, jail credit, minimum release date, parole consideration date, and parole status if shown.
4. Check ABPP hearing results or Demopolis supervision if parole, mandatory release, or probation is involved.
5. If the person is no longer listed, request ADOC or court records rather than treating online absence as full proof.

ADOC Release Date Changes

Research angle O is the core release-date issue. The official ADOC field is Minimum Release Date, defined as the earliest scheduled date an inmate can be released to probation or end of sentence. ADOC says the date can change if disciplinary actions remove good time or if the circuit clerk sends new cases or changes the current sentence. For Greene County sentences, jail credit comes from the sentencing county's circuit clerk, so the Greene County Circuit Clerk may be needed to reconcile county jail time with ADOC records.

Alabama correctional incentive time is governed by Alabama Code Section 14-9-41, and education incentive time appears in Section 14-9-64. Eligibility depends on sentence, offense, classification, discipline, and court orders. Do not use a generic formula for every person.

ADOC Records and Greene County

ADOC lists Alabama Department of Corrections, 301 South Ripley Street, P.O. Box 301501, Montgomery, Alabama 36130-1501, and 1-855-WE-R-ADOC (937-2362). For records beyond the current search, ask for releasable commitment and discharge information, AIS, release date, release type, parole or mandatory release status if public, and public identifying records subject to restrictions.

If the release question started in Greene County Jail, pair ADOC with the county case. The sheriff confirms county custody and release or transfer. The Circuit Clerk confirms case disposition, jail credit, and sentencing orders. ABPP confirms state supervision where applicable. Note: A parole consideration date is a board review marker, not a promise of physical release.

ADOC Greene Search Limits

ADOC states that inmate search and population totals do not include inmates sentenced under the Youthful Offender Act. That matters for Greene County release research because a person may be absent from the public state search for reasons other than discharge. A missing result can also mean the person is not in ADOC custody, the name search is too broad, the AIS is unknown, or the person has already left the current online database.

Use the court record to fill those gaps. The case number, commit county, sentencing order, jail-credit certificate, and probation or split-sentence terms can explain why the state search does or does not show a person. If the person was sentenced from Greene County, the clerk's jail-credit record may be needed because ADOC definitions direct jail-credit questions to the applicable circuit clerk.

For a released state prisoner, ABPP may be the better public path if parole, mandatory release, probation, delinquency, or absconder status is involved. Alabama VNS may support notifications for ADOC-sentenced offenders. The registry may apply only to registrable offenses. Each source answers a narrower question than a general released-inmate search.

Greene Jail to ADOC Transfers

When the county release record says a person was released to ADOC, the person has left Greene County Jail but has not been released from custody. The state search may later show the person after ADOC intake and data processing. If the record does not appear right away, check the court sentence and sheriff transfer entry before assuming a discharge.
