ICE Locator for Greene Releases
Federal and immigration releases are separate from Greene County Jail records. A person may disappear from the county roster because the sheriff released the person to ICE. That is a county custody release or transfer, not proof of community release. ICE ODLS is the next status check when the record points to immigration custody.
USA.gov states that ODLS can be searched by A-number and country of birth, or by name, country of birth, and birth date. ICE's locating-individuals fact sheet says ODLS requires identifying information such as full name, A-number or date of birth, and country of birth. If ODLS does not locate a person, the correct statement is that no result was located with the searched data.
| Situation | Use this source |
|---|---|
| County release to ICE | Greene sheriff record, then ODLS |
| Current ICE custody question | ICE ODLS |
| County jail release date | Greene County Sheriff's Office |
| Immigration court or counsel issue | Attorney, court, or ICE contact path |
Search ICE ODLS for Greene
Use ODLS only when the facts suggest immigration custody. Search carefully because missing or mismatched identifiers can prevent a result.
- Open ICE ODLS.
- Search by A-number and country of birth if the A-number is known.
- If no A-number is known, search by name, country of birth, and birth date.
- Compare identifying details and custody location if a result appears.
- If no result appears, verify with ICE, counsel, consulate contact if appropriate, or the court or agency record.
ODLS is not a Greene County release list. It is a current ICE custody locator with coverage and timing limits.
ICE Locator Fields
The ICE locating individuals fact sheet summarizes the information needed to search for a person in immigration detention.

The ICE source reinforces that the immigration search starts only after the custody trail points away from the county jail and toward ICE.
Greene ICE Result Limits
ODLS may not show a person who is outside ICE custody, recently transferred, under 18, in a non-covered status, or entered with different identifying details. It also does not provide the county jail's release reason, bond order, charge history, or court disposition. Those remain sheriff and court records.
- Detainer
- A request or hold tied to another agency's custody interest.
- Released to ICE
- County custody ended and immigration custody may have started.
- No ODLS result
- No match with the searched data, not proof of release by itself.
Note: Use the county jail record to prove the Greene County custody event and ODLS for current immigration detention status.
Greene Release to ICE Chain
The custody chain is the main issue on an ICE page. A Greene County jail record may show that the person was released to ICE, but that entry only proves the county handoff. The next record belongs to ICE or immigration court. If ODLS locates the person, record the custody location and status. If ODLS does not locate the person, ask whether the person was recently moved, entered under a different spelling, outside covered age or status rules, or no longer in ICE custody.
The county court case may still matter. A person can be released from Greene County Jail on the state or local case and still face immigration custody. A bond order, dismissal, sentence, or jail credit entry in Greene County court does not answer the ICE status by itself. Read the jail release entry, court docket, and ODLS result as separate records.
| Record | What it proves |
|---|---|
| Greene jail release entry | County custody ended or transferred |
| ODLS result | Current ICE custody information if found |
| Court disposition | Local case status or order |
| Attorney or ICE contact | Follow-up when ODLS is inconclusive |
ICE Is Not a Jail Release List
Greene County research found no official 24-hour or 72-hour county release feed. ODLS should not be used to fill that gap. It answers a much narrower question: whether a person can be located in ICE custody with the identifying data entered. A person released on bond from Greene County Jail, a person transferred to ADOC, and a person released from BOP all require different systems.
If a family member only knows that a person left the Greene County roster, start with the sheriff's release record. If that record says ICE, move to ODLS. If it says ADOC, use ADOC. If it says federal custody, use BOP and federal court. The destination listed by the county record is the map.
ICE Identifier Problems
ODLS searches are sensitive to identity data. A-number searches require the A-number and country of birth. Name searches require name, country of birth, and birth date. If any of those are wrong, incomplete, or entered differently than ICE has them, the search may fail. That is why ODLS absence must be described carefully.
When a Greene County release entry mentions ICE but ODLS gives no match, collect the exact name from the jail record, any alias noted in court records, birth date if public and known, and country of birth from reliable documents. Then use counsel, ICE contact paths, or immigration court information for follow-up. The county sheriff generally cannot confirm later ICE release after the transfer unless the county has separate follow-up documentation.
Greene ICE Court Records
An immigration custody question can still require the local criminal file. The Greene County court record may show why the local hold ended, whether a bond or sentence order applied, and whether another warrant or detainer affected release. ODLS cannot show those local details. If the sheriff release entry says ICE, keep a copy of that entry, then compare it with any court disposition, bond order, or sentence record tied to the same booking.
This separation avoids a common error. A local case can be resolved while immigration custody continues, and an ICE search can be inconclusive while the county release record remains clear. The county record answers when Greene County custody ended. ICE and immigration court sources answer the next custody question.
